About NETWORKS

General

Transportation, traffic, communication and energy networks form the backbone of our modern society. To deal with the uncertainty, variation, unpredictability, size and complexity inherent in these networks, we need to develop radically new ways of thinking. The ultimate goal is to build self-organizing and intelligent networks.

NETWORKS is a 10-year programme funded by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science through the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research.

NETWORKS is hosted by four research institutions:

  • University of Amsterdam (UvA)
  • Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e)
  • Leiden University (UL)
  • Center for Mathematics and Computer Science (CWI)

The programme started in the Summer of 2014 and covers a broad range of topics dealing with stochastic and algorithmic aspects of networks. The aim of the programme is to address the pressing challenges posed by large-scale networks with the help of stochastics and algorithmics. The focus is on modelling, understanding, controlling and optimizing networks that are complex and highly volatile.

 EC-H2020

The NETWORKS project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreements no. 945045 and 101034253.
